► Scarecrow Contest Guidelines

  • You must register with us to participate. Click on the black “Scarecrow Contest Registration” button below or the button on the left margin.
  • Participants are responsible for providing their own material to decorate their scarecrow.
  • To be eligible for votes, all Scarecrow entries must be completed and displayed outside and attached to the historic lanterns/light poles or park signs (not on the wood poles or trees) on Broad Street, Pawtuxet Village the sooner the better to get the most votes. (Recommended date is September 30th).
  • Scarecrows must have signage distinguishing the owner or group, and should be prominently displayed and posted on the Scarecrow to ensure proper voting.
  • Please include the name of your selected charity to donate on your behalf if you win "Best of Show." NOTE: Organizations may not choose themselves to receive the donations.
  • Poles are first come, first serve. Businesses are encouraged to set up the scarecrow in their door front or inside the store to allow community members to use the poles.
  • Scarecrows may be subject to severe wind and/or rain so their construction should be durable and with all ornaments securely attached.
  • The scarecrows should not obstruct the view of traffic or block sidewalks (please leave room for wheelchairs and strollers).
  • Friends of Pawtuxet Village reserves the right to remove any entries that do not hold up to natural elements.
  • Applicants are encouraged to create positive, creative, and nonviolent scarecrows.
  • All Scarecrows must be removed weekend of Sat/Sun November 5-6.
  • There is no fee to enter the contest. Judging will be conducted by the general public.

* Why is there no online voting form? Because we'd like for you to visit our Village, look around, stop in to shop or eat/drink something, and check out the Scarecrows in person.
The Scarecrow Contest is sponsored by Friends of Pawtuxet Village in partnership with participating Pawtuxet Village merchants.
